WANTED - Two new Parent
Governors
Dear Parent(s) / Guardians
ELECTION
OF PARENT GOVERNOR
I am writing to invite you to consider standing for
election as a parent governor for our school or to
nominate another parent to do so. There are two
vacancies for Parent Governor on the Full Governing
Body.
St Gregory’s School is a voluntary-aided school, which
means our Governors work closely with the Headteacher to
set strategy for the school and to control budget,
admissions and staff employment. Governors work with the
Headteacher and school staff in a number of important
ways. For instance, they:
-
help to establish the school’s aims and policies and
strategic direction
-
decide in general terms how the school should be run
-
help to draw up the school’s improvement plan and
the SEF
-
make sure that the National Curriculum and Religious
Education are taught
-
act as a link between the local community/ the
Catholic parishes and the school
No special qualifications are needed and the most
important thing is to have a keen interest in the school
and be prepared to play an active part in the governing
body’s work.
Serving as a Governor is an excellent way of helping the
school – and gaining a unique insight into how it is
run.
Parent Governors, like all Governors, work on a
voluntary basis and are elected by registered
parents/guardians of students at the school. There are
no special qualifications necessary to be a Parent
Governor except interest in, and commitment to, Catholic
education and to St Gregory’s, plus a willingness to
learn. Parent Governors must have a child on roll at St
Gregory’s at the time of the election, but do not have
to stand down if the child leaves the school before the
term of office has finished.
The full Governing Body, which includes three Parent
Governors, meets twice a term at school. These meetings
are usually on Thursdays and start at 4.30pm, and last
no longer than 3 hours. Dates are set well in advance to
enable all Governors to make appropriate plans to
attend. Governors are also invited to be a member of at
least two committees of the Governing Body.
All Governors are required to undertake a CRB check.
Anyone wishing to stand for election is invited to
submit a short personal statement (maximum 100 words) to
include biographical information, your reasons for
wanting to be a parent governor and the contribution you
believe you can make to the governing body. Nominations
should name the proposer and seconder (both of whom
should be parents or guardians of St Gregory’s School
students) and signed by the candidate.
If the number of nominations received is equal, or less
than, the number of vacancies, the nominees will
automatically be elected as parent governors. If,
however, there are more nominations than vacancies, an
election will be held and copies of the personal
statements will be sent to all parents. Two weeks will
be allowed for the return of ballot papers. Each parent
will have one vote for each vacancy, no matter how many
children he or she has at the school.
Closing date for nominations is 1pm on
Wednesday 22nd September 2010
I do hope you will consider standing as a governor or
nominating another parent or guardian. Download a
